The meat competence in the organic sector
Good Herdsmen is a growing company, dedicated to the organic sector. Organic meat is its sole interest and the directors are both firmly rooted in the organic movement.
Founded 12 years ago to coordinate the supply, processing and marketing of organic livestock in Ireland. Good Herdsmen represents today the production of some 200 certified organic farmers and has grown into the biggest supplier of organic beef and lamb in Ireland, which gives buyers the maximum security of supply.
Josef Finke (Director)
One of the most prominent representatives of the organic movement in Ireland. Previous chairman of the Irish organic farmers he manages a flock of over 300 ewes.
John Purcell (Director)
He learned the butcher trade in France and managed a busy meat factory in Ireland. He is an expert on beef and runs his own 200 acre farm in Tipperary to organic principles.
The Good Herdsmen headquarter operates from Ballybrado House, Cahir, Co. Tipperary. From here sales and procurement are coordinated.
4 abattoirs, based in the 4 corners of Ireland, are part of the Good Herdsmen organic licence.
The premises for the processing of the organic meat are EU approved. Strict hygiene an quality controls are guaranteed and high capacity packing lines allow competitive pricing.
The main market for our organic produce is Ireland where the supermarket trade is serviced on a weekly base. However sales into the manufacturing industry and exports are developing rapidly, the main markets being France, Belgium and Holland.
